Welcome from the Head Teacher
Safe Healthy Achieving Nurtured Active Respected Responsible Included

Integral to religious education in St. Joseph’s Primary School is the creation and nurture of a strong positive Catholic ethos which exemplifies the Gospel values, promotes an inclusive Community of Faith’, in partnership with St. Joseph’s Parish Church, and empowers learners to embrace their personal faith journey. Learners and staff pride themselves in striving to demonstrate care, compassion, understanding and right judgement in all aspects of the life and work of the school and nursery.

The content of the curriculum in Scottish Catholic Schools is guided by the ‘This is Our Faith’ National publication which emphasises the importance of enabling learners to recognise the centrality of Jesus Christ in their life experiences through: exploration of the Gospel, regular religious observance, opportunities to communion with Jesus, participation in charitable acts, prayer, self-reflection and celebration of the Sacraments and religious festivals. The curriculum aims to raise learners’ awareness of Catholic, other Christian and world religions. Learning contexts promote inclusion and support the recognition and celebration of diversity. The teaching resource ‘God’s Loving Plan’ directs pupils learning towards developing an awareness of self to promote self-respect, raise self-esteem and equip pupils to build relationships with family members and friends.

“ Catholic Education is above all a question of communicating Christ, of helping to form Christ in the lives of others…”
   (Saint John Paul 11, 1976)
